Patrick Farrell
After receiving a degree in philosophy from Amherst College in 1982, Patrick began teaching mathematics the following fall and fell in love with it. He went on to earn a masters degree in mathematics from the University of Connecticut. He has taught mathematics from entry-level algebra through multivariable calculus for 43 years with a particular expertise in teaching AP Calculus. Patrick's students performed so well on AP exams that he was honored with the Siemen's Award for Advanced Placement. His student's performance in math competitions led to him twice receiving the Edyth May Sliffe Award.
Patrick taught mathematics and served as the department chair at the Maine School of Science and Mathematics for 9 years. He was the first faculty member hired when the school opened its doors in 1993. He went on to teach for 21 years at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. He served as Mathematics Department Chair, Interim Director of Summer Session, and Dean of Faculty. While serving in those administrative positions, he kept teaching along the way, as discussing mathematics with young people is his passion.
Kate Farrell
Kate Farrell is a passionate and experienced math educator with over 13 years of teaching in international and independent schools. A graduate of Phillips Academy and Amherst College, where she majored in Mathematics, Kate also holds a Master’s degree in Private School Leadership from Columbia University. She has taught at top schools including Kimball Union Academy, St. George’s School, and international schools in Johannesburg, Cape Town, Singapore, and Rio de Janeiro. Kate specializes in building students’ confidence and problem-solving skills, with experience ranging from foundational math to IB Higher Level and AP Calculus. Her teaching is personalized, engaging, and rooted in real-world applications.
Dan Farrell
Dan Farrell is a software engineer with 7 years experience working in both the public and private sectors. He holds an M.A. in English Lit from Middlebury College, but decided to pivot to the tech sector, attending Launch Academy’s coding bootcamp in 2017. He previously worked in Fidelity Investments Labs department, creating new financial planning software. Currently he works for Department of Homeland Security, building out the automated vetting capabilities of the refugee case management system. He built this website with SquareSpace, and can teach you how to build software as well.
